Charley the Saintly Ghost - Builde 'em Clone 'em!

Are the Ghosts Going to Reappear?
I believe they are! But isn't that an odd question? And what does it mean? Who are the "ghosts?" ... They are the 30,000 plus members that used to use the social network site I started in 1999 - and any others who would like to join in.

Why Did they Stop Using the Site?
GhostSurfers.com was murdered!! What killed us was a hacking incident that occurred in August 2001. It was an extorionist who had been hired by a company we hired. In the first phase of our development plan we did great - over 100 million page views in less than three months, four hits per second and for a time we were one of the top 100 most visited sites worldwide. But the company we hired got the MyFlorida.com contract and cancelled all private sector business.

History
The GhostSurfer Story is one of searching unsuccessfully for venture funding, lost dreams, but never giving up. Now that David Sorkin's film The Social Network, about the origins of FaceBook, is a blockbuster hit the GhostSurfer Story is ready to be told. Prior to the film's release, no one would have understood what I, (James Carvin of Palm Beach, Florida), was struggling with at the turn of the Millennium, as I shopped a gargantuan web development scheme based on my clone and vary technology.

I am unhesitant about saying that what I had was something much bigger than FaceBook (as unbelievable as that may sound). If you don't believe me, read my patent application. Keep in mind that despite the enormous applications indicated in the patent app. itself, most of the uses are still in my head. I never wrote them down because I wanted to save the best for last - and retain value as a CEO.

I will also be honest about the fact that what I lacked was a background in computer coding. I also lacked the privilege of networking at Harvard. These hard facts rendered my trips to Palo Alto and investment bankers and venture firms in several states fruitless. VCs want more than great ideas. They want teams that are ready to roll. And I was experiencing a circular problem. To get the talented people I needed the money. To get the money I needed the talented people.

Patent Filing - James Carvin, 2000-2002
I have been sending out my Patent Filing to those who request it because I think the time to resurrect Ghostsurfers.com may be near and I have been studying the art of drawing close to big money. The proof of my claims is in the patent and I have added a Post Log to the patent file that tells what happened to Ghostsurfes.com after August 2001 and to me. There is a Wiki site that somewhat accurately tells the rest of the story, as well. Click here for the Wiki site. The murder of GhostSurfers.com is part of that story. But what's kind of cool is the ghosts are still out there. And at any time we can rise up.

Let My People Go!
The Russian extortionist who had back door permission to our web site and took us off-line and then held our 30,000 member base captive in August, 2001, made one fatal mistake. You can't hold spirits captive! I say the time is very close. GhostSurfers.com deserves a come back. I believed this would eventually happen from the start - which is why I initiated the Lazarus Project. When the ghosties will rise again, I don't know. But that they will, rest assured.

Message to the Ghosties
If you were a Ghost Surfer in 2000-2001, please accept my very humble apology that we were taken off-line. The story of what happened is told in the Post Log section of my Patent Application link. Many of you knew GhostSurfers.com as a web site that pays you to surf. And a lot of you were happily making money from home without ever investing a penny. We delivered what others promised. Still not all of you were aware of what GhostSurfers.com was really about. You never saw the patent. And many of you didn't stick around while we morphed into the search engine and social networking site we originally planned. You lost patience because of the slow development of the site. And many of you were unaware that since we retained your affiliate link flow thru for you, you could get non-business related traffic to market your interests virally by recommending social links and non-business related links, or simply by having conversations with people on the web and turn a small income into a practically unlimited one. It would have all been done without anyone even realizing you or anyone else was profiting. I apologize that the performance of the site was poor during the transition. We did the best we could but couldn't handle the traffic for lack of funds, nor afford more reliable programmers. Should we ever return the site to business it will not begin before the money, and the proper coding team arrives.

I would like to start inviting you back. Understand that I am not indicating by this that we are going to restart GhostSurfers.com just yet. My conviction that GhostSurfers.com will one day return is a spiritual one. For the moment, I would just like to start hearing your stories. How have you been? Let's catch up! And if you'd like to be featured on my ghosties link, I'll update it from time to time. So just let me know.

GhostSurfers.com was featured August 5th, 2000 in the Tallahassee Democrat. Read Ghost Story #1 to find out why we never go anywhere without our beloved Charley the Saintly Ghost.

Site Plan Moving Forward
I am now rewriting the GhostSurfer site development plan. I have also removed links to the patent application. If anyone would like to see it they will have to sign a non-disclosure, non-compete agreement. Click on the contact link and I will send you one.

Let My People Go! - This clock stays on my wall until it happens.

New Here?
Ghostsurfers.com was the web domain for Ghostsurfers Intl. The domain name was not renewed by the people I gave my company to. I have now purchased ghost-surfers.com so I can tell the story of the original GhostSurfers.com. (Don't get us confused with Ghostsurf - a software program that covers your tracks. We have nothing to do with that. And we are not associated with the punk band, Ghost Surfers, either. All those are new. They've taken our name, but probably quite innocently. No litigation is planned).

So anyway, you are probably wondering how it is that people got paid to surf the web. Wouldn't it be nice if FaceBook paid you by the hour to share with your friends? Well, that is exactly what we did. And it was no gimmick. You will notice that while FaceBook is running, there are advertisements on the right side of your page. That is how FaceBook makes some of their money. What we did, was we shared a portion of that revenue with our members. And the more friends you brought into the network, the greater your share. There were a few people who understood this back in 2000. That is why so many members joined so fast and Ghostsurfers.com became the leader in the Surf4Pay industry. But that was just the beginning of the story. Click here to learn more ...

Member Links Still Out There?!
On top of losing all my email correspondence and everything on my own computers, including all of the books I had written, I lost all of the corporate images during the hacking. The Russian programmers left their mark in the few files they let remain - not just on the server in Tallahassee, but also on my home computer. On the one hand I received emails asking for money for our contact data. On the other, they left a file called "russian.trojan" in the remains on my home computers. It was like leaving a fish in a newspaper, if you catch my drift. They had been led to believe, (incorrectly), that we had failed to pay for their programming.

In any event, not only did they delete the web site, but they deleted everything I had ever worked on - 11 books I had written, thousands of emails. (Does anyone out there remember those long emails I used to write?). In short, they very deliberately crippled me so I couldn't tell you what had happened or rebuild. So in thinking it might now be time to bring GhostSurfers up from the grave I had to go online to see if anyone had copied any of the Ghost Surfer images and get them back. Sure enough, even though the web site itself has been off line for more than seven years, there are still a number of member links pointing to Ghostsurfers.com member pages. And even though the pages themselves are long dead, a good many of our images were retrievable from the links pointing to them. The web remembers. And the ghosts are still out there. Here are some examples ...

Julsha's Cafe Press Site - Nice designs Julsha! Hope you made some sales!

Epinion Review - 3 1/2 checks on sixteen epinions. Not shabby.

Kirkland84 on Fortune City - Good plug! Though I recommend you look at the Patent App. to see what we were really about.

SpiritRider Sig File - Thanks for the promo SpiritRider!

Network54 Forum - We are ghosties. And we were killed. But a remnant is still there. Do you like hunting for ghosts? Here is a discussion of the GhostSurfer Game dating to Feb., 2001. For more info on the Ghostsurfer Game read the Patent App. This links to a third-party member discussion forum that never got deleted.
